Sure, we have very little musical experience and might be tonedeaf, but we have been watching this show for a while and are familiar with all the pimpage, voting irregularities and have heard every AI conspiracy theory imaginable. We also are opinionated and we vote! Give some advice to the Top 12 on what YOU think will set them apart and maybe even give them the edge to crowned the next American Idol.
Blake: Its pure genius to pick songs that are familiar to most people your age and either 10 years older or younger than you, but haven't been done to death like Whitney Houston and the like. Watch the beatboxing - please don't bust it out on Country Night or Broadway night.
Brandon: Your smile melts even the coldest of hearts, like OURS for example. Smile often and try LIVING the song (see Barrino, Fantasia) rather than just feeling it. Show some more personality, get out from behind the microphone stand - we want to see more of you.
Chris R: I think you are the male popstar type that American Idol is looking for. The problem is, your vocals aren't nearly as good as your competition. Continue to choose songs that hide your vocal flaws and show your charisma (see Timberlake, Justin) and you are the one to beat - of the guys anyway.
Chris S: Watch the schtick. Sure, it worked for Kellie Pickler for a while, but she is a cute, blonde girl with a sad story. You are none of those things, but you do have the vocal talent and really don't need a schtick or to strategize to get ahead. Oh, and the next time you are sarcastic to Simon, own it - particularly if it was deserved. Otherwise, you will prove those "fake" accusations right.
Gina: You are the rocker chick lost in a sea of very talented belters. Use this to your advantage and continue to sing the harder edged songs that other viewers enjoy, but SING them - shouting isn't good. Also, I think the stylist might have something against you.
Haley: You look like a Disney princess, so you have the votes of 6 year old girls and their mother's locked up. You need more than that to win, so stay away from the boring stuff you have been doing so far and vamp it up a little. Make Simon remember your name and eat his words - with some spicy sauce.
Jordin: You are adorable and are that way without trying. Stay genuine and continue to sing songs that reflect your age. You do tend to be a little too sweet with songs that don't have sweetness, but you recognize that and seem to catch yourself midway. Keep up the good work.
LaKisha: You are in the trio of belters and that can work against you because the belter votes are split three ways. You need to stand out and singing tired Whitney Houston songs from The Bodyguard soundtrack isn't the way to do that. I think you are great, but seem so reserved right before and after your performance. You seemed like fun when your family visited and "acted up" last week, so show more of that fun side.
Melinda: You are a pro, so there is really nothing I can say about your performing. There is already some backlash against you, saying that your humility is fake. I don't believe that, but it is fascinating to watch you crawl back into your shell after a powerful performance and seem surprised by the Judge's praise. You more than deserve to be there, you deserve to win. Start acting like it.
Phil: You are a handsome guy and I personally don't find your eyes frightening, but you lack the vocals of Chris S, the charisma of Chris R, and unique style of Blake. Also, your last three performances started out really rough so we are relieved on your behalf when it ends alright. Performances like that might not even get you on the tour and people probably decide if they like a performance in the first 30 seconds anyway, so work on those beginnings.
Sanjaya: The bad news is your vocals sound weak and nasally and you lack charisma. The good news is, you have the whole nonthreatening teen boy look and sweet personality that teen girls and old ladies love. That will only get you so far and has gotten further than you should have, so you have nothing to lose. Have fun out there doing whatever you want to do for the time you have left and enjoy the experience. And hell, if you can be shown petting a cute little puppy while performing, then you might make it on the tour.
Stephanie: Of the trio of belters, you seem to get lost in LaKisha and Melinda's shadows. You do have a wonderful and powerful voice, but have sounded the same in your last two performances. Change it up somehow, lose the Beyonce warbling, and set yourself apart from LaKisha and Melinda and you could steal some votes from the other contestants and maybe even from the other two belters.
So, what do you guys think?

Blake: Keep it young. Keep it hip but mix it up a little with using the beat boxing and not. I loved your Kean song on top 24 night and you have a beautiful singing voice. I'd like to hear more of it. Oh, and for the love of Pete, buy some pants that fit.
Brandon: Your smile melts even the coldest of hearts, like OURS for example. Smile often and try LIVING the song (see Barrino, Fantasia) rather than just feeling it. I concur. So far Brandon you haven't proven to us that you are more than just a really really hot back-up singer. Own it!
Chris R: I agree with Spork about making sure you choose the right songs. You have so much charisma and energy that fast upbeat songs are really your strength.
Chris S: Sing songs we may have at least heard of know and use that great personality to work for you and not against you. Don't get cocky.
Gina: Continue to set yourself apart by being the rocker/hard edged chick that you are. See Chris Daughtry as a reference (for the rocker part. Not the chick part). He was a rocker but even when he was singing outside of that genre his look and style didn't really change. He made the song work for him and his strengths and didn't try to fit himself into the song.
Haley: You are not in a pageant nor are you on Broadway. I think you may have the opposite problem from Brandon. I think I'd like to soften it and see you feel the song and not just try to belt it.
Jordin: I love you! Your likable personality and adorableness on top of your talent will carry you far but just work with the vocal coaches on some of the pitch problems in your singing.
LaKisha: No more Whitney please and mix it up between fun songs that show us more personality (Like on Midnight Train to Georgia) and those huge songs that knock us on our butts.
Melinda: There is nothing that I can say here other than keep doing what you're doing because it's working for me.
Phil: You don't always have to sing the big ballad. Mix it up a little...and no more Leann. Ever!
Sanjaya: Just HAVE FUN. You seriously look like you're going to vomit every time you go out on that stage. Pick age appropriate songs that you can feel and get behind. Maybe then you won't sound so timid.
Stephanie: Like I siad about a few other contestants you need to mix it up a bit and show us more about who you are because of the 3 belters, I feel like I know you the least.
Blake: Use your talents and run with it. Keep it young, keep it hip, and everyone will be on the edges of their seats waiting to see what you'll come out with week after week.
Brandon: Wow us. Give us a reason to remember you for something other than your smile. Be better than a back-up singer.
Chris R.: Find songs that can hide your flaws. Work on your flaws to prove everyone wrong. And just keep being flippin hot!
Chris S.: My first inclination is to say get a haircut. You're a great singer, but your song choices are a little odd. Don't get cocky...be snarky!
Gina: Stop yelling...you hurt my ears. Rock out! Have fun! Find something that'll make you last longer than past female Idol contestants that tried to rock out.
Haley: STOP CRYING! Sheeesh... This competition is swallowing you whole, find a way to make a mark or pack your bags.
Jordin: You're super adorable, genuinely likable and should go far. Work on what doesn't come out right and you'll be great.
Lakisha: All your songs are starting to blend together in my head, change it up a bit. We need more Lakisha and less Whitney.
Melinda: You're great, I've got nothing else to say.
Phil: I like you. I think you have talent. I just don't think it's showing. You have a big voice, but it needs work and maybe try something other than a ballad. And no more Leann....just no.
Sanjaya: GO HOME! I just can't handle you and that voice, sorry.
Stephanie: You are always the one I forget about...you're getting lost in a sea of powerhouses. Mix it up, step away from the box you've placed yourself in, and stand out from the others.
Haley: STOP CRYING! Sheeesh... .
YES! I almost forgot. Please! Stop crying! it won't help Simon remember your name. He'll just call you 'that crying girl'.
Blake: You're so "right now", keep the song choices comtemporary, even when it's an old song..bring your fresh feel to it. Don't wear strange pants or hats.
Brandon: You can siiiing! Xtina et al didn't choose you to be back up because you couldn't sing but now you're on your own and you gotta step it up. Perform more.
Chris R: I don't think you have found the right song to blow us away yet but when you do, then i think we will be wowed. Seriously. I don't know what that song is but it's out there and it's cool.
Chris S: Keep the quirky thing that you have. Concentrate on your vocals and choose the right song, preferably one we would know. Make sure we don't mistake your confidence for arrogance and be funny.
Gina: I like you, you're sweet and your smile is infectious. You need to stop screeching the songs but I like the rocker thing and no other girl can rock it up like you can so fill the hole. Choose GOOD songs.
Haley: Sing every song like it is your last because let's face it, it probably will be. The top 12 is a different league and we notice when people can't sing as well as others. Maybe pick a song that's not cheesy and one that you can sing nicely. Oh and I'm with everyone else; stop crying and feel lucky you are where you are. Smile girl!
Jordin: You are so sweet! Keep that up. I think you have a terrific voice and being as young as you are means that it's probably only gonna get better. I'd like you to stay a while.
LaKisha: Obviously the second best girl singer (for me). You and Melinda are the front runners so far and no doubt you will continue to sing every song well. I'd like to see some variation though, maybe surprise us.
Melinda: I. Love. You.
Phil: Hmm, lose the scary eyes. Don't feel the need to shout every other note because you feel that the song needs it. Maybe blend the big notes in with the song as a whole rather than making me jump out of my seat. I'm sure when the volume thing is sorted I'll enjoy your performances.
Sanjaya: You sing like my 12 year old cousin. Let's hear the power in your voice, is there any? Come on shock me, prove me wrong. Give it some attitude!
Stephanie: Obviously you can sing but you sound too much like Beyonce. You need to find your own style but generally, you're bringing it nd I like you.
This week The contestants will perform songs from the Diana Ross and the Supremes songbook.
Any guesses or wishes for what they will each perform?
I know I can do without ANYONE performing "Baby Love". I just do not like that song.
I know that I am supposed to, but I don't really care for Diana Ross or her songs.
That said, I would LOVE Chris S to take on "Love Child" LOL. Or Chris R to get all disco and do "Love Hangover". And what will the Belters do? None of Diana's songs are of the belty type. Melinda will probably be all kinds of awesome regardless.
And Rulz, someone will sing "Baby Love" and that person will prob be Haley.
That said, I would LOVE Chris S to take on "Love Child" LOL
I'd actually like ANY of the guys to take on Love Child. Hee!
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" might be good for one of the belters and I just know someone's going to give "Stop! In the Name of Love" and only if they do the cheesy choreography will I vote for it.
I'd actually like to hear Melinda sing "Someday We'll be Together". I think she's do great on that.
I just think the guys are going to have a hard time this week.
I don't have any advice for all of them. I'd look like a fool giving advice. Heh.
Gina: You are the rocker chick lost in a sea of very talented belters. Use this to your advantage and continue to sing the harder edged songs that other viewers enjoy,
Now I understand why the judges, especially Simon, are putting her in her box. I found it really weird last week that they were all, "The real Gina finally showed up." It's her only way to survive the competition - to be a rocker chick away from the divas. That was probably why Simon was less than thrilled when she belted out Celine in the first week. No need to be a belter. I think TPTB likes her, and want to keep her around for awhile. Hey, now I got an advice, next time you get to rock out a song, stay away from Amy Lee. There are other rock songs out there where you could sound better - Amy Lee is just a no-no.
So I will try....
Blake: You've shown you can just actually sing straight without having to beatbox, and that it was pleasant enough. Keep beatboxing as your best weapon. The secret is to know when to unleash it or not. You did good judgments so far on Keane (no beatbox), Jamiroquai and 311(w/ beatbox). You're my bet for the guys, so don't let me down!
Melinda: Congrats! That is all.
Stephanie: I actually like you because you are the "modern" diva, and when this is all over, you might actually belong more in the mainstream music compared to Lakisha, and to some extent, maybe even Melinda. Is it possible though that you could maybe, wear a wig or something? You are channeling too much Fantasia with that hair, and we don't need you to be the next Fantasia.
Sligh: Why are you softening up? Where's the snarky person of yore wanting to make David Hassleholf cry and smacking Simon down rightfully so? What happened to that person?! Don't give in to TPTB's evil machinations! We need more people like you in this show.
Sanjaya and Haley: Enjoy it while it lasts, because it's really going to be over soon. Although I think Haley has it in her to give out a kickass performance. At least show that you have it before they kick you out sooner or later.
Jordin: A few years down the road and this competition would have been in the palm of your hand, no doubt. Of course, we'd never know if there's still AI by the time you're 21. I do believe though that you're probably the best seventeener AI has ever had, even better than Paris and Diana DeGarmo.
I'm out of thoughts regarding the others.
I think TPTB likes her, and want to keep her around for awhile.
And that is fine with me! As long as the great and powerful TPTB doesn't try to break up her relationship or anything. ;)
Melinda: I. Love. You.
Me too. If she doesn't end up winning this thing, her vote off will be the saddest one for me, after Anthony's anyway.
As long as the great and powerful TPTB doesn't try to break up her relationship or anything. ;)
Snork! TPTB. The new Great and Powerful Oz!
I know that I am supposed to, but I don't really care for Diana Ross or her songs
I second that, personally I think it's the hair. It's just....big!
I second that, personally I think it's the hair. It's just....big!
Well then she Chris S should get along just smashingly. They both have copious amounts of the hair.
I know that I am supposed to, but I don't really care for Diana Ross or her songs.
I like Diana Ross and the Supremes. I'm not a superfan nor do I pretend to know a huge amount of their songs but I do like a good few. She was a legend in her prime. Okay so not so much today but she's still a classic oldie.
I've danced many a dance to Chain Reaction and sang loudly to Where did our love go. I am not a fan of Baby love though, it's so wet and I'd bet on Haley singing this one.
Should be interesting anyway.
