American Idol Top 10 - I heart Gwen

Watching the montage of Gwen Stefani from over 10 years ago brought back a lot of memories. I loved No Doubt way back then and I have always liked Gwen as a person. The Man put it better; "They finally got someone modern on this show." I also like how she was honest about every contestant and tried to be constructive.

LaKisha Jones: Sang Donna Summer's "Last Dance". YIKES! That dress hurt my eyes and was not flattering in the least, but the boots were - those were hot! The vocals were great and she even did some dancing but meh. It felt like good karaoke to me, but the judges loved it.

Chris Sligh: First off, he gives me a visual of him that I DID NOT WANT and then proceeds to sing "Every Little Thing She Does" and it was a hot mess. Boring, out of sync with the music and backup singers...ugh. It was written all over his face before the judges even spoke. What happened to this guy?

Gina Glocksen: Sang "I'll Stand By You" and I really loved this! For one thing, it was so nice to hear her actually sing and show off that beautiful voice. This really was the perfect song for her and she absolutely deserved the tongue bath from the judges. YAY!

Sanjaya Malakar: Sang "Bathwater" and is this a joke? The hair is indescribable and then hearing him sing some of those lyrics....there was just so much WTF going on. Simon said it best; it doesn't matter what they say, Sanjaya is in his own universe. Honestly, I don't even want the kid gone now - just fascinated by his continuing presence.

Haley Scarnato: Sang "True Colors" and the vocals were nice, but she is back to the whole boring beauty pageant thing. Not much else to say.

Phil Stacey: Sang "Every Breath You Take" and I really enjoyed this one. I am rooting for Phil because I kind of see him as an underdog of the guys, so fingers crossed that he lasts a couple more weeks.

Melinda Doolittle: Sang "Heaven Knows" and once again made a song that I don't really care for an enjoyable one. It was nearly perfect, but I agree with Simon regarding the outfit. It wasn't as bad as LaKisha's though.

Blake Lewis: Sang "Love Song" and I thought the whole thing was perfect - from the clothes, the whole vibe, everything. Simon and Randy thought he was a little boring and didn't really get it, but Paula does....and so do I. IMO, he is as much of a pro as Melinda is even with their vastly different styles.

Jordin Sparks: Sang "Hey Baby" and while she is naturally good, this was my least favorite performance of hers. She even sounded a little bit off to me at times. Once again, the judges liked it better than I did.

Chris Richardson: Sang "Don't Speak" and I really liked the new arrangement. During the first verse, he wasn't very nasal and I had high hopes. Then he hit the chorus and it was all through his nose for the rest of the song. He really is talented and I like him, but I can't get over the nasal - it gets more noticable as the group of performers gets smaller and smaller.

Top 3 (In Order): Blake, Gina, Melinda
Bottom 3 (No Order): Chris S, Sanjaya, Haley

Gwen was probably the best coach they had in recent times. She was actually a useful coach - constructive, gives praise when deserved, and most importantly, does not sugarcoat things. I like her honesty, and this maybe the first time I remember it happening, but her criticisms ended up being the actual weak spots of the Idols themselves. I'll never her understand her move to mainstream pop, but I immensely enjoyed her when she was still the bohemian vocalist of No Doubt. Really did not expect her to be this excellent of a coach. Love her "good luck" to Sanjaya. Hee! Seems it's not only the judges that are speechless about him.

But the theme confused me. So it's Gwen Stefani night, but not only her songs, but also her favorite songs/artists?! HUH?! Is this to give Lakisha and Melinda an out? Too bad, I would have wanted to hear them sing Gwen Stefani/No Doubt songs. And the others who have chosen different songs too.

Blake, you have failed me! Ever since I heard Gwen is coming in, I had already envisioned you doing Hollaback Girl. Or Boy, whatever your preference is. But I did like your sweet, soft side and I do agree with the judges that you are the best guy. Wondered what happened to the beatboxing Gwen was talking about though. But I thought it was a good thing you abandoned it since I can't figure out how beatboxing would fit in that song.

The strong ones remained the favorites. I liked most of the performances. And Sanjaya continues to baffle me. I'll leave it at that. I can't remember ever Simon admitting defeat but after six seasons, of course, you'll think he'll meet his match eventually!

Top three in order: Blake, Gina, Melinda.

Bottom three in no order: Sligh, Haley, Sanjaya.

Sanjaya will probably never go home, and Haley has the SexyGirl Thing all locked up, so my bet to go home is Sligh.

Gwen can come back and coach any time she wants. She did a great job although I wonder how much of what she said to the 'confessional' camera she actually said TO the contestants because they never really showed her personally critiquing them. I thought it was funny how she said Lakisha made her get all sweaty. LOL.

Ok, no sense in repeating Spork and What since I agree with most of what they said even down to their top and bottom 3.
Top 3 (in order starting with best): Melinda, Blake, Gina
Bottom 3 (in order starting with worst): Sanjaya, Chris S, Haley

Oh and usocrazy, I threw a couple of votes the way of Chris R because I know you luuuurv him. I think they were protecting him though by giving him the pimp spot last night.

You know, I thought, when Sligh made that Teletubbies comment, that this is finally the contestant we've been waiting for who will give a big FU to TPTB. But whoever thought that the contestant who ends up giving the finger to TPTB is actually SANJAYA?! He knows he is being treated as a joke, and I give him props for somehow saying and acting like "Screw you all!" I thought that was the message being sent by THE HAIR last night.

NO! Not Jordin! She's actually becoming my favorite female now, because she's improving vastly every week, and maybe it's just me, but *whispers* I actually thought her Hey Baby is a little messy. Not as a hot mess as Sligh's though. But I give her more props than Lakisha and Melinda for sticking to the supposed theme, and by continuing to challenge herself by her song choices. I was a little turned off last night by both Lakisha and Melinda by singing Donna Summers instead of Gwen. I actually thought they were the ones being safe and predictable.

I didn't actually consider them playing it safe any more than a few of the guys singing songs by the Police and Blake doing 311's arrangement of a Cure song. Not everybody is meant to sing No Doubt songs. That would just be painful for all of us...and for poor Gwen.

I love Jordin but I don't know if it was her vocals or that ill fitting and ugly grey skirt that made me not put her in my top 3 last night. She certainly doesn't deserve bottom 3 though. I hope Dial Idol is wrong.

that ill fitting and ugly grey skirt

I don't know if anyone in here is familiar with it, but it reminded me of Sailor Moon. Heh!

I hope Dial Idol is wrong.

They lost their touch since being so eerily accurate in Season 5. I hope Jordin being in the bottom 3 is wrong, but I hope Sligh being the one to go home is right.

IMO, Melinda and Blake are much better than everyone else, consistently. I want them to be the final two, a lot. Usually one other person is as good as they are(last week it was Jordin and this week it was Gina) but they bring it every time.

Gwen! EEEE! I <3 her too.

I like Jordin, but "Hey Baby" is too low for her voice. It did sound weird. I don't mind that they didn't force them all to do No Doubt songs, because that theme is too narrow. Does anyone else remember Gloria Estefan Night from Season 3? That theme was way too narrow and no one was very good.

My bet is that Chris Sligh is going home. He's lost the "outsider" votes to Sanjaya at this point and he's not singing well enough to pick up new votes.

I hope that Sligh goes home over Jordin. I've gotten really attached to her and while last night wasn't her best, she doesn't deserve bottom 3.

And yes, Sanjaya will stay for God knows how long. Then again, I was sure Antonella would make it to the Top 12 and good thing I was wrong.

Ohhhh on one hand I would love to have those them be in the Top 2. At the same time, I would be torn as to who I would want to win. At least it would be more exciting than last year's Top 2.

Awww...thanks! I luuuurvvv him very much, last night he was fabs. I think I have a thing for Idol contestants named Chris and no hair.
