American Idol Top 8 Women

Once again, the girls put the boys to shame immediately. Like Fork said this morning, it could be all female finalists at some point and that could be really REALLY boring. Ok, maybe Chris R might sneak in there.

Jordin Sparks: Her revelation is that she is a huge football fan and paints her face and stuff. I can actually see that. She sang Pat Benetar's "Heartbreaker". This girl really owns the stage, not one bit of nerves. Overall, a really good performance but she lacked the rocker growl that a song like that needs. Simon thought she was "screechy" but meh, its that kind of song.

Sabrina Sloan: She wanted to be the next Katie Couric in High School. Sang En Vogue's "Don't Let Go" and to use Randy's line, it was just alright for me. She can definitely sing, but something was lacking. Is it nerves? Is she the new Bot? What?

Antonella Barba: Used to play the violin in High School and sometimes gives lessons when home from college. Sang "Girl Put Your Records On" and it was her best performance since the Top 24. What I mean by that is that it wasn't painful to listen to and was even nice at times. Paula then proceeds to damn her with faint praise and then Simon follows that up with saying what we are all thinking; No more BS, she has gone as far as she can. Antonella takes it well and has left the attitude at the door. Between the 'tude adjustment and Simon bringing up the whole negative press stuff, she will make the Top 12. Damn IT!

Haley Scarnato: Was a gymnast as a child until her body started falling apart. Ok, what the hell is she singing? I am already bored, so my mind starts to wander a bit; really pretty girl, cute top, nice teeth, is Simon going to make her cry again? Well, he didn't make her cry this time even though he couldn't remember HER NAME. Goodbye Haley, you seem very sweet -the Sanjaya of the girls, if you will. Its time to go home to that cute fiance of yours.

LaKisha Jones: She revealed that she is terrified of animals, which makes me a little sad for her. Sang "I Am Nothing" and it was my least favorite performance of hers - just another adequate Whitney for me, nothing special like her two previous performances. Judges love her and liked the performance better than I did. I LOVE her Mom and Aunt. I get the feeling that LaKisha is probably as fun and crazy as they are and I hope we get to see more of that personality show.

Gina Glocksen: She showed us all her lucky charms, including one really dirty looking Mr. Pickle - washing it won't make it less lucky. Sang "Call Me When You're Sober" and while I loved her energy and the whole look, she shouted that song and it wasn't as good as she is probably capable of. I still really like her and hope she stays. And Simon did make her cry, but in a good way awwwww.

Melinda Doolittle: Melinda has OCD tendencies, so once again I identify with her LOL. Sang some kind of firecracker song that I never heard before but LOVED IT. Other than the occasional awkward Leslie-esque stage movements, it was flawless. She will make it to the Top 12, no problem, but I am concerned that people will take her for granted and she will be voted out too early.

Top 2: Melinda Doolittle and Jordin Sparks
Bottom 2: Antonella Barba and Haley Scarnato
In danger of not making the Top 12: Gina Glocksen and Sabrina Sloan

Like what Melinda sang, this is a W-O-M-A-N's competition, and it is the women's to lose. You could actually put Antonella through if you consider the overall talent. (*shudder* did I just say that?!)

I am readying myself for an Antonella upset. Props to Simon for somehow complimenting her about the way she's handled the media scrutiny and sympathizing with her for what she went through. But I can't fault Simon for being honest. It was the best she sounded, but still at that level, she's painfully, obviously out of her league compared to the other ladies in this competition. Put her through and she'll just make others shine so far ahead of her, even on their bad day.

Bye Haley. She just seemed so defeated and looked like she had given up already with her "clocking in, clocking out" comment, although I felt Simon could have been less harsher than what he said.

I agree with Paula regarding Melinda - I always look forward to next week to see what else she could do. Simon walked a little fine line there with his "tiger-pussycat" comment. At least it's a little tamer than "minx."

That said, since I am bitching about Antonella possibly staying and upsetting one of the more deserving girls, I am doing my part so that she would go. Although I am not totally feeling them tonight, I'm throwing my votes to Sabrina and Gina, the best possible victims of an Antonella upset. The judges' comments about them "deserving" to go through, especially Simon towards Gina: "I really, really, really hope you make it through..." like he's almost begging, make me think one of these two are in danger of being voted out. Stephanie is probably splitting votes with Sabrina, favorably towards the former.

Speaking of Stephanie, I don't get it why Randy thought it was important to say over and over again it didn't compare to Chaka Khan. I didn't even think of Chaka Khan - I thought of Mary J., and that's what probably Stephanie is doing too. Sometimes, Randy thinks he knows too much when he doesn't.

And I am throwing some votes towards Jordin's way too, because in the bizarro world, I have this gut feeling she might be voted out too in favor of Antonella. She did give a strong performance, but going first is always scary.

Should go: Haley and Antonella. Antonella. Antonella again! PLEASE.

Will go: Haley, and either one of the three - Gina, Sabrina or Jordin.

Ok, I just checked DialIdol, and if it is to be believed, all the guys are actually in danger of being voted off tomorrow! Heh! And the "danger girls" are Jordin, Antonella, Stephanie, Haley and Sabrina, from the least to the most "in danger."

On a serious note though, it's just that the guys are too close to call, so it could go any way, but the two lowest are Sundance and Phil, with Jared just a hair above Sundance, but everyone is just really, really close to each other. So DI didn't declare any of them safe at all.

For the girls, two lowest are Haley and Sabrina, with Stephanie just a hair above Haley. Safe girls are Melinda, Lakisha and Gina, and the rest are "in danger."

Prepare yourselves! LOL!

Ok now I'm scared although Dial Idol isn't nearly foolproof. I threw my votes Gina's way and Jordin's way tonight because they both deserve to be there and I felt both were in danger. But from this point on my main votes will go to Melinda. She's my girl and I don't want to be held responsible for her getting Daughtry'd (not that he's complaining about losing right now).

Please, please, PLEASE let Antonella and Haley go home tonight. They are just in WAY over their head. I'm sure they've gotten enough exposure already to get them on their way in the entertainment business if they want. Haley can have a nice little career on stage (she actually has a good broadway belter voice) and according to The 10 Spot on E! last night, "Girls Gone Wild" is said to be interested in hiring Antonella to host one of their videos.

Ok, my favorite moment of the night did not come from the stage but from the judges table. When Simon admitted he didn't even know Haley's name Paula got really indignant and told him it was Haley. So Simon asked what Haley's surname was and I do believe Paula's answer was something along the lines of, "um...it's Italian" (that's after her initial response of "surname?" Psst. Paula. That means last name). It was a nice try by Paula but she needs to just admit that she didn't know her name either.

Do you guys think TPTB can actually manipulate votes? If Antonella doesn't end up in the bottom two, think they would fix it? Before I thought they do fix it, but after Taylor's win, whom they never liked, obviously, then maybe not.

I'd like to think they can't or don't manipulate votes and that the only voter manipulation that happens is throught the judges comments where they can make voters feel that their favorite is either safe or unsafe.

I think Antonella may end up being this season's 'Chicken Little'. The contestent that makes the finals and you constantly ask, "Why are you still HERE?"

Host or partake in? Because I have a feeling Antonella would be a great multi-tasker with something like that! ha ha

Melinda Doolittle is amazing. She hasn't put a foot wrong so far and she is the most deserving in terms of going into the top 12. If she doesn't make it then I'll eat my hat. I love her. Oh and the OCD thing? Yeah girl, you ain't alone!

Lakisha was ready to bring it, and she so did. However, it was basically Whitney's version but you can't knock her vocals really. Another top 12 chick.

I like Jordin, she's very sweet and fresh. I love this Pat song and you can totally hear that Jordin has a great voice but it's I'm kinda feeling that it'snot quite "there" yet but she should go through to the top 12.

Gina is so likeable and she works hard. However, I'm not a fan of her voice at all. I'd like to hear her sing a soft ballad to see if she shouts that too.

Sabrina, oh you gotta love En Vogue, I do. Sabrina has an excellent voice but there was a few screeching noises thrown in to this performance but again, she deserves a top 12 spot.

Stephanie can siing but she kind of bores me because she always sounds the same and this week wasn't her best.

Now onto the last two girls, the two girls who shouldn't really be in the top 12 at all. But I have a feeling that we're gonna get at least one of them thus losing someone that shouldn't have gone home so early. That's idol!

Oh and Antonella is probably bringing in more viewers, the dirty old guys who wanna see the young "pretty" girl who got her boobs out and did...other stuff for the camera. I can't believe Simon applauded her for handling the media so well. yes she probably has but I'd rather it wasn't mentioned so not to bring it to the forefront and masking her terrible voice.

To sum up, it's all about the girls and I expect a girl to win and I hope it's Melinda.

This is just speculation, but if Antonella comes from the devout Catholic family that people say, then her parents probably had no idea about the other naughty pictures and would be very upset if she were to do more of the same - PUBLICLY this time.

Then again, maybe not? We won't know until she is FINALLY voted off.

I'd like to think they can't or don't manipulate votes and that the only voter manipulation that happens is throught the judges comments where they can make voters feel that their favorite is either safe or unsafe.

I agree with this. If TPTB (heh) actively chose the AI, then Taylor Hicks would never have happened. Plus, remember how much Pickler was pimped at first, but then Simon proceeded to take her down until she was finally gone? I sometimes think the judges can be more fickle than we are.

The number quoted on E! last night was $250,000. Private colleges are expensive and Antonella is an adult. Hmmm. $250,000 is A LOT of violin lessons.

J/K. Doubtful that this is true anyway. You know Simon mentioned last night how well Antonella was handling the media scrutiny but really, she hasn't really had to. She is sequestered with the other contestants. She's not being interviewed and she's busy with so many other things, like Anthony said in his interview this morning, that she probably really doesn't have that much time to even think about it. We'll see how well she handles the media scrutiny once she is voted out and the media actually gets a hold of her. That's when we'll really get a sense of her maturity and composure.
