Well, I did kind of watch it. It seems the the American Idol Finale has lost the magic that it used to have. Even last year's was better and more exciting, even though I barely watched that entire Season. Not sure I will be watching next year, but anyway.....
There were some good, bad and funny moments. Rather than recap a whole two hour show that we all saw (and from reading around, others seem let down by it too), here are the things that actually had my attention.
Kelly Clarkson singing "Never Again". I don't really care for this song on radio, but I LOVED IT last night! Granted, I have never had a boyfriend leave me for another woman and then MARRY her, but I felt like I did while watching Kelly! That bastard! Carrie/Bo are the last American Idol CD's I bought, but I will definitely be buying Kelly's "My December".
Top 6 Guys with Smokey Robinson was great! They all seemed to be in top form, even Sanjaya sounded really very good. I never thought I would say this about this particular group of guys, but they smoked the girls tonight. Their Top 6 with Gladys Knight zzzzzzzzz.
Blake with Doug E Fresh. The beatboxing/rap really isn't my thing, but I really enjoyed this one. Blake is super talented, you can tell he has a real love for what he does and that is always inspiring and fun for me to watch. I am so glad that he didn't win last night because they would just take what he loves and turn it into a watered down mess. Oh sorry, I am not supposed to know he lost yet. ;)
Random funny things: Randy Jackson SERIOUSLY wearing that jacket and Constantine Maroulis pouting and ducklipping for the camera while pretending that Tony Bennett is his hero.
Melinda's performance. She sang a Gospel number (at least that is what it sounded like to me), which is a pretty big clue as to the direction she will probably take. Its a good fit for her and I will be buying that album. Awwww she still should've won - she would have made that This Is My....Just NO! craptastic into fantastic. *sigh*
Carrie Underwood! I am a fan and that is no secret, but I thought she stole the show with "I'll Stand By You". I loved it the first time, now love it even more. The whole thing, from her voice, her presence, the fiddle and guitars.....just simple and beautiful.
And the most uncomfortable American Idol Finale moment EVER! Clive Davis and his longwinded speech, where he pretty much dissed Kelly (mildly), and then overtly dissed Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee! Dear GAWD, this was so squirmworthy! Clive is like that bitter old relative at Thanksgiving dinner.....he has a gaggle of kids and most of them are no good and are huge disappointments and seems to think we (and they!) want to hear how disappointed he is! Ugh, by the time he got around to giving Carrie her recognition - there was nothing fun about it and I just wanted the old man to get off the stage. I am so glad Kelly Clarkson is sticking it to him over her album!
Funny/Annoying Moment: Sanjaya doing a reprise of "You Really Got Me". This kid is lucky that people seem to like him personally because this performance still sucked. This time, crying girl looked more terrified than overcome by squee. It was annoying because while Sanjaya was fun at times, I would much rather have seen more from the other (more talented) idols. Maybe another medley? CAKE duet? Sanjaya didn't deserve his own thing, so I think 19E has something cooking with him. *eyeroll*
The Beatles Medley: I loved this. I am somewhat familiar with nearly every Beatles song, since my Dad owns nearly every one of their albums. By far, the best and most touching was Carrie Underwood singing "She's Leaving" while backed by the Top 6 females. Chills. And then some tearing up.....really Spork get a grip! As soon as I find this on youtube, I will be watching it repeatedly.
Of course, a lot of other things happened but in the end.....Jordin is the new American Idol. I know, try and contain your surprise. Congratulations Jordin, I will be buying your album for my nieces.
