I know he's had a long, successful career and all that but I AM NOT a fan of Barry Gibb or any other kind of Gibb, although I think Andy was cute for his day. I have no explanation as to why I don't like the Gibbs, its just one of those irrational things like not being able to watch any movie starring Diane Keaton. Its a very real aversion, but I can't explain why. But there is a bright spot! Judge Judy is in the audience and I love me some Judge Judy. Any woman that can say "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining!" with a straight damn face is my hero!
Melinda Doolittle: Sang "Inside and Out" and I just love her. Sure, this wasn't her best performance - not even close - but it was still near perfect. I could almost see her back in the Disco days singing this in Studio 54, but some of those wild disco-doin's would've shocked her. Judges were pretty meh on the performance.
Blake Lewis: Sang "You Should Be Dancing" and it was really kind of boring. The beatbox seemed kind of lame and if he would have mimed again he would have been DEAD to me. Thank God he didn't. Nice dancing though. Judges thought it was a hot mess and yeah, I have to agree.
LaKisha Jones: Sang "Stayin' Alive" and oh man she should have left this one alone! It was really bad and she knew it, her expression at the end said it all. Simon doesn't want to kiss her now and I don't blame him.
Jordin Sparks: Sang "To Love Somebody" and the judges said she was the best of the night so far! Comparing her to Blake and LaKisha, I guess....I was bored throughout the entire song.
This is really the worst night this season. Hope that Part 2 is much better.
Melinda Doolittle: Sang "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" and it was really great. Usually, a song like this would bore me to tears but I always look forward to whatever she does.
Blake Lewis: Sang "This Is Where I Came In" and ewwww he is back to the Grandpa clothes. Actually, I really enjoyed this performance although I could see Chris Richardson doing a better job with this one. The judges didn't care for it, Simon was particularly harsh. It was much better than his first performance, but it in no way made up for it. Blake, you in danger Girl!
LaKisha Jones: Sang "Run To Me", which is a Gibb song I like! I braced myself for LaKisha to butcher it, but it turned out to be very nice. She definitely redeemed herself, even though she got a little hoarse at the end.
Jordin Sparks: Sang "Woman in Love" and it was a bit shrill in parts but alright overall. Simon was right, the song was way too old for her. Hell, it was too old for me.
So, tonight really sucked. It was so boring that I don't really care who gets voted off, unless its Melinda. I don't even want to think about that possibility though.
Top 2: Melinda and Jordin
Bottom 2: Blake and LaKisha
Leaving tomorrow: LaKisha

I loooooooove Barry Gibb ! And what this bunch did to him today is a crime ! Poor Andy must be spinning in his grave.
They should all go home tonight for that wretched performance.
Once upon a time I used to think Barry Gibb was the hot Gibb (next to Andy of course) but didn't he used to have an upper lip or did he just have more facial hair to disguise the fact that he was lipless? He came on the screen and I didn't recognize him almost! Of course after last night, I'm sure the Idols took another couple of years off the poor man's life and made him even more unrecognizable.
This was just not a good night. No one stood out. Melinda held her own especially on the second song but didn't make me go "Holy Moly!" like she has been known to do. Lakisha and Jordin each had one good song (Lakisha's second and Jordin's first) and I'm going to have to go with the whole "hot mess" critique for Blake. Must you screw with EVERY song and make a dance remix out of it?
Top two: Melinda and Jordin
Bottom two: Lakisha and Blake
Probably going home is Lakisha but I wouldn't cry if it were Blake after last night.
(Excellent and funny review Spork on an otherwise blah night of Idol). Now to see what Anthony thinks about it today on GDNY...and to see what he's wearing. ;)
Great review, Spork! I thought Randy actually made one of his smarter comments when he said Blake's first performance was kind of European discotheque. It seemed like something Mike Myers would have shown on "Sprockets". :/ No one was very good tonight, but I still liked Melinda the best.
I like the BeeGees! Their music is usually fun, though it certainly wasn't last night. And Barry Gibb's GIANT SCARY VENEERS were in danger of eating his whole face.
Once upon a time I used to think Barry Gibb was the hot Gibb
There was a hot Gibb? :P
I will comment later about the performances when I have more time.
Barry Gibb..hot, interesting Rulz.
There was a hot Gibb? :P
It's all relative. Look at the other 2 Gibbs then look at Barry. Plus I was a child back in the 70's when i came to this conclusion. I mean I thought Fonzie from Happy Days was hot too. You'll be happy to know that my taste has improved...somewhat... with age.
Poor Barry Gibb....but I have to agree with Miss K on the veneers. I am all for having nice looking teeth, but those were pretty bad and he isn't the only one.
Its almost as bad as a woman getting a really fake looking boob job.
I mean I thought Fonzie from Happy Days was hot too.
I am with you there, although I had more of a crush on Chachi. And remember Joanie and Chachi? That was Canthony for the early 80's.
And remember Joanie and Chachi? That was Canthony for the early 80's.
Are you kidding?! I think I was one of the 5 people in the country that watched "Joanie Loves Chachi". Loved them!
How bad was the show last night? 7 posts in and we've already moved on to talk about bad TV from the early 80s.
Does anyone remember on "Gimme A Break" when the Bee Gees visited? I can't find it on youtube, so I am starting to think I imagined the whole thing.....
Yep all pretty boring in comparison to last week definitely.
Melinda is awesome. She HAS to make the final two people!! Her first song choice wasn't the best but she did sing it so well. The second song was fab. I love her, she's so cute and deserves a place next week and if she doesn't I'm going to stop watching.
I'm boooooored of Blake, sorry Blaker girls! Can you imagine a whole album of him beatboxing on every single song?? No thank you. But I do believe he will get a deal and make that album.
LaKisha sang Staying Alive, oh Lord. She isn't great at picking songs in my opinion. This is a great song don't get me wrong but she needs to show off that voice and this didn't do it at all. LaKisha is going home.
Jordin has such a lovely voice but she still gets a bit "pitchy" now and again. She should be here next week for sure.
Yup, next week had so better be good.
