American Idol Top 6 (Again!) - Bon Jovi Night

I am actually excited for tonight. Last week was for charity, etc but I am SO ready to be mindlessly entertained tonight. So the show starts and I am already excited to see....Antonella Barba?! Oh, and there's Gina too.

To the judges - Randy is not a fashion disaster this week - less is more Dawg. Paula looks cute, like a candy coated librarian, and Simon is Back in Black.

Now we are introduced to Bon Jovi and I instantly flashback to my early highschool years. The girl next to me in Geometry had "Slippery When Wet" written in pen on her inner thigh. Hee! What a tramp! I like Bon Jovi alright, but of the 80's hairbands Def Leppard will always have my heart and even better memories attached. ;)

Phil Stacey: Sang "Blaze of Glory" and he finally seems to really want to be there. Fugly jacket aside, this was all kinds of awesome. Perfect song for him, he no longer performs like death warmed over. His best yet and I thought he had reached his peak with the Garth Brooks song whenever that was. Randy and Paula loved it like I did, Simon thinks he is going home. Boo.

Jordin Sparks: Sang "Livin' on a Prayer". Hmmmm, this was not good. It felt awkward and her talent for expression seems to have left. She has only one expression the entire time and that was PAINED. Agree with Simon, it was "shrieky" and oh man this might send her home too soon.

LaKisha Jones: Sang "This Ain't A Love Song" and she's BACK! I thought the theme tonight would finish her for good, but she knocked it out. Perfect and Dude! Simon just kissed her on the lips! Simisha lives and I am so glad LaKisha redeemed herself after the past couple weeks.

Blake Lewis: Sang "You Give Love A Bad Name" and I am loving him with the dark hair, but then he lost me. Mime! There was miming and that I cannot take! The whole thing was very entertaining, but too much beatbox and the vocals really weren't his best. Randy and Paula still gave him a tonguebath and Simon said 1/2 will love it and 1/2 will hate it. Hate is a bit of a strong word, but really MIME?!

Want to know why Americans are annoyed by the French? Its not politics or the snootiness, its the freaking MIMES! They are more evil than clowns!

Chris Richardson: Sang "Dead or Alive". He had a really good start, but then the nostrils took over and he got twangy right before the "I'm a cowboy" part. It was all out of control from there, didn't like it at all. Chris is so cute, I want to reach out and rub that fuzzy cute head of his but that isn't enough. The judges really liked it (save Simon) which surprised me. Did they just hear and see what I did?

Melinda Doolittle: Sang "Have A Nice Day" and ohhhh I don't care for this song at all. YES! I do now! It was a perfect Melinda performance and thank God the stylists aren't dressing her like a Paralegal any longer, and this is coming from a former Paralegal.

Top 2: LaKisha Jones and Phil Stacey
Bottom 2: Chris Richardson and - ohhhh it pains me to type - Jordin Sparks
Who is going home: Jordin Sparks and Phil Stacey

This is one of the best nights of Idol ever! Last time I had that feeling where I enjoyed almost everyone was on #1 Billboard Hits Night back in Season 4. So Bon Jovi is one heck of a great mentor! And HAWT at 45 too! Although it's still Bono who owns my rocker heart.

Phil - For the third straight week Phil performed like he really wanted to win this. He picked the perfect song and he was really into it. Too bad he's not TPTB's favorite. He's still not my favorite, but I do respect that he's given 3 great performances in a row.

Jordin - Eh, it wasn't good. She sure did dress and look the part, but that was it. I do agree with Simon that it was really shrieky. Maybe Bed of Roses would have been a better song choice for her.

Lakisha - WOW! That blew me off! Definitely the best of the night so far after watching it. Lakisha found a way to skirt around the theme that didn't favor her and chose the perfect song and knocked it out the park! Jordin should have borrowed a page from Lakisha's book. For the first time in weeks, I really felt the old Lakisha was back and she WANTS this thing so BAD!!!!

Blake - Oh MY Blake! I do agree with Simon that it was definitely a polarizing performance, and I'm on the side who LOOOOOOVVVVEESSSSS it!!!! He took a YOOOOOGE risk that even Bon Jovi wasn't sold on, and it was even harder as it is a very popular song, so he's either a hero or a goat. There was really probably only two things he could do with it - sing it straight Bon Jovi Style or Blake-ize it. My favorite part was trading bars with the drummer. Like Lakisha, Blake found a way to skirt around the theme without totally blatantly ignoring it. I love the mix of rock and beatbox. Although I went EH! on the miming as well. When I first heard the mimes I thought it was gonna be a hot mess. Go Blake!!!!

Chris - He has been toning down the nasal for the past two weeks, but the song is too big for him. Plus, there's a direct comparison from another Chris the past season, who knocked this song out of the park. So I don't think it was a smart move on his part at all. Definitely the second weakest performance after Jordin. And following both Lakisha and Blake didn't do good for him as well.

Melinda - Could you be anymore adorable?! "Did you say church?! Ok, I like church!" "Is this rock on sign? No?" Melinda brought out her bad rocker self and sold to me the Bon Jovi song that I liked the least. I do love her interaction with the guitarist. I loved, loved it because I thought Melinda will have a problem with Rock Week but she proved me wrong and rocked out! I also loved the bitchface at the end! So believable yet so funny coming from Melinda.

It was a really great night! Even the not-so-great ones didn't suck so bad.

Top three: Blake, then Melinda/Lakisha in a tie.

Phil is a very close fourth.

Should go home (based only on tonight): Chris and Jordin.

Will go home: Phil (really too bad) and Chris.

Ok I'm still giggling about the mimes and "Simisha" so it's hard to type. Hee-hee! Ok. I'm fine now.

This truly could have been a disaster...but it was not...at ALL. I was shocked.

I thought Phil did great. He picked a perfect song for his voice and showed that he really wants to stay.

Jordin...ohhhh Jordin. No no no. Not good. The hair was awesome!! Very Chaka Khan. The rest was not. This was the first week where I saw the nerves and saw how completely uncomfortable she was.

Lakisha!! She's BACK! She brought the YO tonight and was fantabulous! I think I love her version of the song better than Bon Jovi's. Shhh...don't tell.

Blake: Well put me in the group that loved this performance (miming aside). I appreciate that he put his own spin on it and made it original. Definitely not forgettable. Although I worry that the half that loved it won't be the voting half.

Chris didn't impress me this week. I was really hopeful at the start of the song. I thought he started well but it just didn't do anything for me. As what said, he wasn't just being compared to Bon Jovi he also was going to draw comparisons to Chris Daughtry.

I love Melinda! This woman is a cameleon. I don't think we've found a genre that she can't sing. She did incredible. Terrific performance and she looked great. I think this is the youngest we have ever seen her look.

Top 3: Lakisha, Melinda, Blake
Bottom 2: Chris and Jordin
Going home: Chris and probably Phil (unfortunately)

This was a truly painful week for me, not that the Idols did a bad job, but as a card carrying memeber of the Bon Jovi fan club it's hard to hear anyone but Jon sing his songs.

With that said, Lakisha made the smartest move of the night. Pick a song that was never released as a single or even on an album for that matter and run with it. She killed it tonight.

As for Blake, I must ask why? Why must you ruin a perfectly good rock out song with beatboxing? Oy! The others did the same thing for me.

Maybe I'm biased, but I just couldn't get behind anyone singing a song like Jon. And on a side note--way to show some love to David Bryan. Buddy doesn't get nearly enough screen time as he should.

It was on an album though. I found it on iTunes last night. It's on the "These Days" album.

And you call yourself a fan, Crazy. Shaaaaame.

Actually, it was never released on the album. The "These Days" album was originally released (and you can check my original copy) without that song. Don't question the fandom. It's gained popularity as of late b/c Kelly Clarkson recorded it as well.

My apologies to the great and powerful BonJovians.

Fans can find it on the remastered re-issue of the album though.

Phil Stacey: Ooh good song choice! He did well again this week, but I have a feeling he may just go home but maybe he actually is the dark horse...

Jordin Sparks: Wow, how to make Jon feel OLD! Yes, her Mom got her into Bon Jovi..lol. Livin on a prayer is a massive karaoke song so it's hard to make it your own. It wasn't a good performance at all. Not sure if it means she'll be gone this week but it's a possibility. Maybe people will forgive her for this week.

LaKisha Jones: Woo hoo! Finally she is back to her best. She's never listened to Bon Jovi? Where the frick has this girl been? LaKisha picked the best song for her and she really did sing it.

Blake Lewis: Totally made the song his own, but I prefer it without the beat boxing thanks. I know it's his thing but I dunno, it felt a bit off. He was good though, I LOVED his hair.

Chris Richardson: Yeah he was ok. His singing voice is starting to grate on me though, hmm.

Melinda Doolittle: Take it to church! Rock onnn! Oh I adore her. Absolutely amazing performance, best of the night in my opinion. The thing with Melinda is, she can perform anything and this week was no exception.

I have no idea who will be going home this week, it's too close to call especially with two going.

Maybe you will get your wish this weekend, TonyFan.

Do you know of anything coming up this weekend with them...or just hoping...I did see a comment somewhere from a guy saying he was "their" (meaning Carrie & Tony)security on May 5th at a charity thing...I don't have a clue as to what/where because I couldn't comment back.

whatneverwas said...

Shoot! That comment even made ME feel old.

Hee! I was just gonna say maybe Bon Jovi appeals to middle-aged women more, but I think usocrazy would bitchslap me if I said that. LOLLL!!!!

sporkenyall said...

Charity huh? I have no idea and I won't speculate, but maybe there will be a Romowood double date like what was suggested on TWOP.

Heh.

Romowood is doing charity together now? It must be serious then!

I'll play nice, promise.

I am by no means middle aged though. I was 12 when I swiped Bon Jovi's cds from my parents collection and I've been in love since. So be nice, or I'll get all crazy.

Phil was really starting to grow on me, so I was sad to see him go. He may not have the originality of Blake or Chris' cuteness, but he has a better singing voice than both of them. I think he'll be ok. If Kellie and Bucky can get record deals with weak voices, then Phil should be able to get a deal with a good voice.

As for Carrie and Tony, I haven't heard anything about a charity event. Tony has a golf thing with another teammate Saturday. I don't think it's charity related, but it may be. If Carrie's planning on watching him play golf, then it has to be serious because that is some boring stuff.

where's the golf thing info- and the teammate? lots of golf games are charity related...maybe there will be pics.

Dallas - I think the thing Tony is competing in is actually Friday. Terence Newman is the other cowboy participating.

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens this weekend in Romowoodlandia. ;)

And Jane Doe, I was a little sad to see Phil go as well. If you want to repost your thoughts on the results, you can do it here

On Tony Romo:

It's recently been confirmed that Carrie and Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo have been "spending time together." OMG, we hope they get married and have country music-singing, football-playing babies. That is the best all-American happy ending we have EVER heard of!

LOLLLLLL!!!!!
