American Idol Top 6 - Idol Gives Back

Tonight is the long awaited Idol Gives Back night and I already get some kleenex to prepare to cry. Poor and sick children do that to me every time. :(

Ryan starts the show looking all compassionate and with the stubble to match. Apparently Bono was the mentor for the Idols, but we never saw him. Strange. Footage is shown from their travels to poverty stricken areas and I am already teary.

Chris Richardson: Sang Eric Clapton's "Change The World" and this was a very good song choice for him. Nice dancing, low nasal, and a great ending.

Melinda Doolittle: Sang Faith Hill's "There Will Come A Day". I have never heard this song before and Melinda blew me away. Like Randy said, its perfect what else can you say?

Blake Lewis: Sang John Lennon's "Imagine" and I LOVE THIS SONG and oh Lord, am reaching for the kleenex again. Perfect song choice, the sweet vocals are back and reminded me of when I heard him sing "Somewhere Only We Know" and fell in lurve. The judges were underwhelmed, but I thought it was great. This isn't exactly the song you sing to get a party started.

LaKisha Jones: Sang Fantasia's "I Believe". The whole thing was pretty meh for me, no goosebumps like I remember getting when I first heard Fantasia sing this a few years ago. Simon thought it was shouty, I just thought it was boring.

Phil Stacy: Sang Garth Brooks' "The Change" and it was a really great vocal and there was even some emotion in his performance! Great job, Phil! This was his best performance I think.

Jordin Sparks: Sang "You'll Never Walk Alone" and this was the best performance! I thought it was going to be Melinda as usual, but Jordin's performance had a little something extra. Randy called it the best vocal EVER on American Idol and he might be right.

Everyone was really good tonight, but someone will still have to go home tomorrow.

Top 2: Jordin and Melinda
Bottom 2: Chris and LaKisha
In danger: It could be anyone....

Did you guys notice in of the clips of their trip to Africa that Simon literally looked like he was hyperventialting or was going to pass out he was so upset by the horrible circumstanses he was seeing? I don't know how you can see things like they did and not come back a changed person.

Chris Richardson: Really good song choice and I thought he did a great job. He didn't just sing a copy cat version. He made it his own.

Melinda Doolittle: Made..me..cry. I hate when that happens! Made my heart of stone get all mushy. What is happening to me?!! Best of the night for me.

Blake Lewis: I love this song too but I'm sorry Spork it just wasn't my favorite Blake performance. I thought his Kean performance was much better.

LaKisha Jones: Is Lakisha TRYING to get kicked off the show? That's two weeks in a row she tried to tackle a song made famous by a previous Idol winner and the second time she has fallen short. I have to go with Paula on this one and say that Fantasia is such an original that you cant help but think of her when you hear that song.

Phil Stacy: I really liked this Phil performance. I actually felt his emotion on the song and he did a great job.

Jordin Sparks: Jordin was terrific! I LOVE this song. It's a HARD song to sing and she soared with it.

I agree with Spork that everyone did well tonight and they made great song choices for the theme but some just executed a little better.

Top 2: Melinda and Jordin (if these two aren't the final two, I'll be shocked)
Bottom 2: Blake and LaKisha

Did I hear Ryan right when talking about Wednesday night's charity show that perofrmances will be made available to download on iTunes including Carrie's cover of the Pretenders "I'll Stand By You"? I really hope I heard that right.

Chris's voice was whiny and nasally as usual, complete with tortured facial expressions. Clearly the worst of the night. And yet the judges gave him a tongue-bath. Why are they doing it ? Lakisha clearly wants to go home. I hope she gets her wish. Everyone else was OK. I was not blown away by any of them, although Melinda and Jordin were good like always. Blake and Phil were just OK to me, although much better than Chris, even though the judges disagreed. Maybe Bono did not show his face because he did not want to get the blame for this group ?

I think the judges were taking it easy on the contestants last night and so was I, to be honest.

Melinda and Jordin (if these two aren't the final two, I'll be shocked)

I think it will be Melinda/Blake with Blake winning - it seems like he has the bigger and more rabid fanbase.

I don't know. Melinda has never been in the bottom 3 and Blake has. He may have the loudest fan base but I don't know how rabid they are.

Maybe Bono did not show his face because he did not want to get the blame for this group ?
I think I read that Bono was just mentoring them on the group song that they are performing tonight.

I thought it was pathetic that Simon didn't realize that THIS country has starving children. That's a self-absorbed asshole for you!

Yes, he was shocked ! shocked ! that there are food pantries in LA. He should roll down the windows in his limo once in a while.

Chris Richardson: I like this song and he sang it well. He is so pretty and he did well this week. He won't win though but still, better week for him.

Melinda Doolittle: Full of emotion that was! Melinda is the one idol that can get the message across and I felt that emotion. She's wonderful and deserves a place in the final 2.

Blake Lewis: Ok so Imagine is one of the most famous songs ever written and it is a masterpiece in terms of inspiration. However, I thought Blake sang it well but I dunno, I'm kind of bored with him now. I actually hope he doesn't win. But he is hot.

LaKisha Jones: I think Lakisha wants to leave. Why else would you sing songs from ex-idols twice on the run AND both times not come up to scratch. Did she not learn from JTTW? Ok so this song might be inspiring for her but there must have been another one she could have chose instead. Could be a really bad move.

Phil Stacy: You know, Phil has really come into his own these past couple of weeks. He can really sing but I just didn't care enough up until now. I enjoyed this performance. *claps*

Jordin Sparks: Oh man, AMAZING performance and it got me choked, for personal reasons.

My top two are Jordin and Melinda; equally.

I couldn't tell you who is going to kicked out though. It's wide open and it could be a shocker.

Overall, it seemed a pretty good night, compared to the other nights we've had before

Chris - toned down the nasal, so good for him. Definitely much better than last week.

Melinda - Paula said it all: "magical"

Blake - I actually liked it. I agree with Simon that he sang it with sincerity. I do like Blake when he's doing his thing, but I also like it when he knows how to just sing the song straight.

Lakisha - It wasn't bad. It was shouty, but not all horrible. BUT, compared to the ones before her, it didn't look good.

Phil - 2 weeks in a row he has a fantastic performance. His voice just soared in this song and he's no longer a 'Bot anymore. Showed that he deserves to stay.

Jordin - Magnificent! Although I don't agree with Randy it's the BEST. VOCAL. EVAH! It is one of the best performances ever on AI though.

Top 3: Melinda, Jordin, Phil
In danger of going home: Lakisha
