American Idol Top 8 Men

Ohhhh they are revealing stuff about themselves. And no, its not as juicy as you might think.

Blake Lewis: He loves impressions and Halloween. Oh my Blake, I agree with you on Halloween, impressions? You lost me..... Sang "All Mixed Up" and the entire time I kept wondering what the hell was he thinking wearing those pants - made him look squatty and chubby; two things I never thought I would say about my Blake Lewis. As usual, did a great job with the vocals and found a variety of ways to beatbox over the word "ass". Is there anything that My Blake Lewis can't do?

Sanjaya Malakar: He is a hula dancer! Between that and the flat-ironed hair, I will just leave it alone. He then proceeded to nasal up John Mayer's "Waiting For the World To Change". On the plus side, he seemed more confident and actually sang rather than whispered. On the negative side, it just wasn't that good. Poor Paula was turning herself inside out trying to be nice and if PAULA is having that problem, then its time let this sweet boy go home.

Sundance Head: Did you know that he has a thin person living inside him? Yeah, don't we all? He sang Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" and proceeded to suck all the tragedy out of the song and turn it into....I can't put my finger on it but Simon said he was like a bar singer. I'll go with that.

Chris Richardson: He used to be chunky! They showed some pictures and he was still damn sexy! He sang Keith Urban's "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and it was a ok, a little on the boring side though. And YES Simon, I agree with you that it was a little nasally. Something also occured to me....he is just as pretty as Antonella, but without the attitude. I like this guy and even with the meh performance tonight, he really is the entire package and is the one to beat.

Jared Cotter: Played college basketball and decided to go into singing when he realised he wasn't going into the NBA. Sang "If You Really Loved Me" while rocking the Dad sweater. He has a nice voice, no doubt, but that performance left me cold and he seems to have acquired some scary facial expressions he didn't have before. Paula thinks he needs to step up his game and I agree with her.

Paula is quite lucid and eloquent tonight, no?

Brandon Rogers: He is a classical pianist and for some reason, that really didn't surprise me. Sang "I Just Want To Celebrate" and I liked it but fear that he is pretty forgettable. Did Simon just call him "Travis"? See what I mean?

Phil Stacey: He is bald on purpose and used to have hair. This is good to know because I have carefully refrained from commenting on the bald head because I thought maybe he had a medical condition. Grow the hair back. He sang LeeAnn Rimes "I Need You" and oh, the beginning was painful and the rest of it was a hot mess. He also was a little sarcastic towards the judges and while I am all for sarcasm, its not good after a sucktastic performance and before the Top 12 is selected.

Chris Sligh: His revelation is that his hair is REAL. Was there any doubt about that? Sang "We All Just Wanna Be Loved" and it was my least favorite performance of his so far. Nice note at the end, but he could have done so much better. Judges also had the same sentiment and Chris promptly played the humble card by apologizing for not bringing it this week. Nice move, but don't overdo it.

Top 2: Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson CAKE SQUEEEE!
Bottom 2: Sanjaya Malakar and Phil Stacey
In danger of not making Top 12: Brandon Rogers and Jared Cotter

Before I forget, anybody hazzard a guess on what big Idol News/event they are announcing on Thursday? Songwriting contest? All Star Idol where they sing the songs from the songwriting contest? Those are my guesses.

No on to the contestants. Ugh. What happened?! They went back to their week one of sucking. Even the great ones were only good. I have never agreed with the judges so much...and PAULA...in all my life.

Blake Lewis: His impression costume scared me...as did his pants. Not flattering Blake. Burn those. His performance though was very good. You know Paula had a point (I KNOW!!). It's really hard to get into a song when you aren't familiar with it but Blake made the song interesting.

Sanjaya Malakar: Sanjaya? As a contestant? You are dead to me! What did John Mayer ever do to you?! Too bad you got your GED already because that performance would have been great for the high school talent show.

Sundance Head: Ok so shouting is the new good this season? Hmm...um...no.

Chris Richardson: And Chris wins the Anwar Robinson "Nasally Up In His Nasal (tm Jacob on TWOP)" Award. I honestly couldn't recognize this as Keith Urban until they told me. I was so distracted by the singing through the nose. That being said, I think we are going to be seeing Chris R. far many more weeks. And he deserves to be here.

Jared Cotter: Oh Jared that was as beige as your sweater. I'm not sure that was enough to get the votes to be here next week.

Brandon Rogers: I actually threw some votes Brandon's way this week because I really don't want him to go (I'm sorry. I'm a sucker for that smile) and I think he did much better this week than last week.

Phil Stacey: Phil, Phil, Phil. The hat, the scary eyes, the song...no. Just no. He does tend to shout the songs, doesn't he?

Chris Sligh: Again with a song I have never heard of. But unlike Blake, this one did not hold my interest as well. He has a nice voice though and I'm pretty sure he's safe tonight. He's got the "Fro Patrol" behind him.

Top 2: Blake and Brandon

Bottom 2: Sanjaya and Sundance

My guess for the big news on Thursday is the song writing contest...they were pimping that pretty big before the season started.

Ughhh...what a craptastic week for the gents, no? When uber-cheerleader Paula is even having a hard time paying you a compliment, you know it's rough.

Blake was awesome and took me back to junior high school dances with the song. I am surprised not one of the judges knew that song, it was kinda popular back in the day. Loved the beat-box to cover the "naughty" words. Blake's a FCC poster boy.

Why did Sanjaya have to ruin a perfectly good John Mayer song? Why did he have to reveal he can hula? And why does his flat-ironed hair look better than mine? He can go home, me no likey him.

Oy, all that shouting Sundance did gave me a headache. Didn't like the song for him, think he might be in over his head (no pun intended).

Chris R. is my new McYummy. How flippin adorable is he?! Granted he was a little nasally but it wasn't bad. At least the head bobble wasn't happenin this week.

Jared, Jared, Jared...why must you try and rock the Bill Cosby sweater? His performance wasn't great, it might not have even been good but it wasn't bad. It was meh.

Brandon is starting to remind me of the Little Engine that Could...I think I can, I think I can....try harder!

So Phil is intentionally bald, I like it! Am I the only one? hmmm... Ok so Phil's lessoned learned was don't sing a song by Leann Rimes and don't bug out! But I think he deserves top 12.

Chris S. just finished out an already sucktastic night for me with a sucky performance that I couldn't remember if I tried. At least he apologized.

Top 2: Blake and ?
Bottom 2: Sanjaya and Sundance

Which four guys do you think the judges were picking for the top 12?

Ohhhh good question! My guess is that the judges' Top 4 (in order) are Chris R, Blake, Chris S and Brandon.

Speaking of the judges, last night was just weird. Simon was his usual self, but PAULA was very honest and didn't overly sugarcoat like she usually does. Randy! He called Sundance's "Jeremy" HOT. 'Nuff said.

I agree that the judges were probably talking about Chris R., Blake, and Chris S. but I'm up in the air between Brandon and Phil.

I'm going to go with Blake, Chris R, Chris S and either Phil or Brandon.

Ok clearly we went to Jr. high school in different "days" because I had no clue.

Jared, Jared, Jared...why must you try and rock the Bill Cosby sweater?
I was actually getting more of a Carlton from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air vibe. He came very close to doing the Carlton dance too.

Perhaps they switched Coca-Cola cups.

Clearly, but we won't talk about that. It was late 90's so it was all the rage.

Rulz, even though I am middle aged like yourself (heh), I was familiar with the 311 song, but wasn't sure who sang it. I was also surprised that the judges weren't familiar with it, esp Simon.

Does anyone know who sings the Chris Sligh song? That one is driving me crazy, maybe you young people can enlighten my LOLOLOLOLOL

Ugh the boys sucked this week! They must get better or else the show will just be about the ladies and that's just plain old boring.

Blake the reggae boy, who knew? It was okay.

Now I like Jared, he can sing and he's pretty. this week he was just okay but kinda boring.

Phil Stacey, you SCARE me! You don't need to open your eyes so much, honestly. That was not a good performance, it wasn't even "okay".

Chris Sligh, what happened my man? He needs to step it up and I think he can with a better song. He's still my favourite boy.

Chris Richardson sang such a beautiful song that can make me cry. Yes, it was nasal I guess, but that's how he sings. It wasn't the best arrangement but I still like him, he's a cutie.

I'm not een mentioning any of the others.

What a crappy week?! I hope the ladies are better.

I'm sure in my case age isn't as much a factor as a coolness deficiency.

It was posted on the MSN review. It was "Wanna Be Loved" by christian rock group DC Talk.

I didn't catch it again. Seems I didn't miss much, so I just went to YouTube to see the "interesting" performances.

I'm now officially on Blake's train. MY Blake! Sigh. He's just so cute (not the weirdo pants though) in a geeky kind of way, but you know there's a naughty bad boy deep inside. I can't believe I didn't notice his tats before. Nice touch to the overall geeky look. And I so dig his song choices so far, very un-AI. I mean, you gotta tire of hearing Stevie Wonder and all those really old, old songs of yore sometime soon, right?

I have a feeling Brandon will go this Thursday. Which is sad because he is a good singer, just really uninspiring performances. Which is weird because he's a backup singer (to Xtina!), meaning he's had tons of experiences and he should know what song choices would show his strengths. I've thought at the beginning he and Melinda would give a good showdown of the back-ups, but he's fading, while Melinda is soaring.
